I write in Mac pages (iOS, iOS) for academic work. But… I do my all my drafts in Obsidian (I’ll post my iA theme later) and iA Writer (the OG).
I have attached the fixed font and APA7 style Pages template. I draft and write notes and everything in Duo and you can grab them here.

They way I write…
- Although APA7 governed, you can write your draft the way you want. You can use Google Docs or word or whatever to be honest, but I work on a Mac and I like it fast and minimal. Pages is fast (like Apple notes). I don’t know what they did to optimise that cursor but it’s great.
- At the end of the day it is just a bunch of styles you need for submission. In my case, I can choose my font, etc. It is not a doctoral submission or a legitimate research paper, but an assessment (more on that at a later date).
- I use Obsidian in parts, that being I break up my assessment into parts. This can be your own or provided by your university. For example, Part 1 (P1) might be “Introduce the abc and bring context to the blah blah” (use 100 words). Then Part 2 and 3 might be together, such that you have a continuation of answering (basically 2 and 3 are a section). They also have their guide for word counts (in some institutions you get marked down for writing too little or too much).
- So this is why I have the section styles and I put int P1 (100 Words), etc.
- You can turn on select word counts to make sure you’re not fucking it up.

- I have another document open, “References”… generally “UNITID AID – REFERENCES”. Unit ID (obvious) AID - Assessment 3 “A3” – Name of assessment. e.g. “BA9000 A3 – References”. This is because you’re working to a word count and your references are not included.
- All of this is the final composition. Everything else is done in Obsidian or iA, etc. Depending on your work, it could be in R or Python files as well. Your course could also have a video and the script is submitted too (online courses).
- I have a whole article on learning with AI. It is still being perfected as I continue through my MBA but so far it has yielded 100% on results.
- p.s. Have fun!
